Adam the web today led the Club MTB ride….6 of us out for a cold, icy start…Wilson,Battsy,Cani Jane,Cardiff Martin & Burnley Martin…as the day progressed the thaw made the initial rutted ,tricky going into a bit of a mudfest…Adam cooked up a superbio ride….with some interesting new bits, particularly around Heywood Plantation,Popes Hill and a section from Elton Corner up to the top of Littledean…we even saw a Bear up on the Blaze Bailey out walking with his missus…coffee was taken at Dean Heritage where also “H”‘s group appeared to graze on cakes….30’ish miles all good preparation for the Wentwood Challenge in 4 weeks time..

Mr Chair switched the RDFCC road ride to a MTB ride today ,quite sensibly ,given the conditions…then didn’t make it as Aylburton was Icebound!!…lol… 3 turned up at the Fountain, Moi et “H” and Adam the web then pedalled up to Dean Hall to descend to Pedalaway via the trail build with jumps through badgers setts…at Pedalaway Scary Mary and Wilson joined up for an alfresco ride to Ruardean where we descended to the Wye Valley from the church to then return to Ruardean and the Crookend End Cafe via Bishopswood/Howle Hill’ish…..post coffee & cake the group headed back into the Forest stopping briefly to chat to Coach who had been out walking with Mrs Coach… mileage approx 30….conditions icy followed by slushy..

Ride Report 29/01/2012

At the Fountain on Sunday the women out numbered men with the 3 WAG
regulars and 2 new lady members on the MTB ride. John lead the MTB
riders Antony and Steve (not on x bike as the “all fire roads” promise
was not out to be broken), and new members Kim, Mark and friend Jane
(all canicrossers). Riding and running with dogs must provide good
training as the 3 new riders easily coped with increasingly technical
and horrendously muddy single track. 16 hard technical miles were
covered… with the recurring refrain “in summer this is really
fast”…

Long Ride

5  out on the long(ish) ride, myself, John L, Simon Mac and the Streatham brothers, Jason and Jamie (nice to meet you guys!).

We headed out through Lydbrook then onto Goodrich, Llangarron, Little Dewchurch over the river to Fownhope, where Jason & Jamie continued on to Ross to get home in time for the footie. Three left, then up the nasty little climb through Capler Wood (had to be at least 25% in places).Over to Pontshill where we then headed upto Ruardean via the Deep Dean climb.

I left John & Simon at Ruardean to head home, they continued over to Lydbrook then back to Parkend. 53ish miles, very windy in places, one puncture and a few nasty little climbs. Good ride!!

Antony Pollard

Short Ride

Three road rides out today; I took the short ride with a coffee stop at Goodrich Castle on the way home, Emily Ravenhill took the ‘WAGs’, and Antony Pollard led the longer ride – last seen heading for Hereford. Windy day, but sunny and not too cold.

Ride Report 15/01/12

A gr8 turnout for today’s Club MTB ride which was a taster session of the 2012 Forest MTB Sportive a route devised by Dr John and Adam the web…..quite a possee of 16 riders assembled at the Fountain swelled by 4 out for Emily’s WAG’s ride. The group basically did 25 miles of the route..which we won’t advertise just yet so as not to spoil it for those who wish to ride it…May 20th is the date for your diaries….2 punctures a couple of off’s resulting in damage to Corporal Jone’s new Cube…and a big up to Steve Ardern for riding it on his Cyclo-Cross steed…”Fires Roads my A*se”..I believe was uttered..lol

On today’s ride we paused to drink in the wonderful views of the Wye Valley from St Briavels on John & Ad’s “Tour de Foret et Vallee Wye”…thanx Guys a gr8 day out topped off with a coffee at the Cona Cafe…
