The third 'Forest of Dean Mountain Bike Enduro' event was recently successfully
held on Sunday the 28th September. The event organised and promoted by the Royal Dean Forest Cycle Club in the Sallowvallets area of
the Cannop valley, was again based on 10 mile off-road loop that has been painstakingly developed by club members over the last 3
years.
A dry and bright autumnal day left 220 riders with almost perfect conditions
to enjoy the demanding course's tough climbs and tricky singletrack descents... some of the best the Forest has to offer. Third time
lucky for the RDFCC Enduro... at least for the weather. But whereas the weather was on our side again this year the mechanical
gremlins were out and about. Melanie Alexander favourite in the Female Masters (4 Lap) category was first to be struck down when
an inner tube erupted 50 meters from the start and RDFCC rider Jeremy Addis suffered a pinch flat towards the end of his first lap
while well in the lead of the 2 Lappers.
But despite his rear gear cable breaking at 19 miles Jared Linden fought on to win the
Youth category for 4 Laps. "Great conditions and good natured atmosphere with people pulling off to let me past" said Jared after
the event. His father John Linden who also rode said "The course this year was in tip top condition. The only place to relax was
the fire road at the start of each lap. Once we hit the single track it was full on for the next 9 miles."
