The second 'Forest of Dean Mountain Bike Enduro' event was recently successfully held on Sunday the 30th September. The event organised and promoted by the Royal Dean Forest Cycle Club in the Sallowvallets area of the Cannop valley, was again based on 10 mile off-road loop that has been painstakingly developed by club members over the last 2 years.

A dry and bright autumnal day left 250 riders with almost perfect conditions to enjoy the demanding course's tough climbs and tricky singletrack descents... some of the best the Forest has to offer.

The 4 lap competitors where first to start with Phillip Morris first home, taking a clear victory from Matthew Page and Dominic Eggberr in the Expert category - completing the 40 miles in just over 3 hours! Charles Newton-Mason took the win in the 4 lap Junior category and Mike Tomlinson and Lyn Coldray respectively the 4 lap Master Category male/female categories.

Chris Andrews was dominant in the 2 lap event for the second year, taking the clear win in the 2 lap Sport category in just over 1 hour and 30 mins. With Julia Shrubb taking the honors in the 2 lap Sport female category. David Hayward and Sally Daw respectively taking victory in the 2 lap male and female Veteran categories, and Adam Smith Taking the win in the Youth Category.

Matt Godden took the win from Andrew Taylor and Robert Newth in the 1 lap Open Male category, and Gwen Hughes beat Zanna Heighton to take the win in the 1 lap Open Female category.

There were also creditable results from local riders, other top local and RDFCC riders home where Earl Smith 6th, Joe Williams in 10th, and Jon Linden 12th in the Masters Category... And also Henry McGill 17th, Ian Spencer 39th, and David Halson 59th in the Veteran Category.

Thanks must go to all from the Royal Dean Forest Cycle club who helped with the event, and to everyone else involved in making the day a success - including the Forestry Commision for their help and support, Tri Coaching UK for doing a brilliant job with the chip event timing, Avon Ambulance service, The Forest of Dean Motor Club, Event sponsors Hoare Lea Consulting Engineers and LeahRhys.Com, Pedalabikeaway Cycle Center, U-not-me.com photography (Mike Anstice), and GlaxoSmithKline for providing drinks to keep the riders going... and of course to all the competitors - Well done to all...
